This is so important to us here at The Merchant Guru. We have heard too many stories of merchant providers discontinuing service once the merchant starts processing. Let’s dig into it, though…
Why do processors approve merchants and then shut them down after they start processing?
It can be for Several reasons
1. Many large processors do what is called “Reverse Underwriting”. This is a strategy where the set-up process is made to be very simple. Essentially, EVERYONE is approved. Once you start processing, however, is when they will underwrite a business and decide whether they like the business or not.
2. Auto Approvals – If you have decent credit and you fall into a generic business category code, you may be approved automatically through a processor’s algorithm. Great news, right? not necessarily. This process was really developed for brick & Mortar retail businesses, and generally will still have to get approved by an underwriter

This happens often. We may not have a direct integration, but we may use 3rd-party integrations such as Authorize.net or NMI, amongst others, to integrate. Get in touch with a guru today, and we can advise.
In many cases, we can, depending on the business type and situation. Some businesses like to do this to build relationships with multiple processors & split their processing volume. This can be very beneficial for businesses, especially businesses that are growing.
